Islam stresses prime importance on the concept of time. Allah ﷻ repeatedly reminds us that you have limited time in this Dunya, so do good and achieve eternal bliss.
كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا
On the day when they see it (their end), it will seem to them as though they had only lived in the world for a morning or an afternoon.
(Al Quran 79:46)
This ayah of the Quran depicts and reminds us about the day of resurrection where we will be standing in front of our Rabb, The Lord of the universe, asking for His mercy and waiting for approval or rejection of our deeds according to the cause and course behind it.
While standing and waiting for fate, when we will look back to this Dunya and what it contains it will look very small and worthless. The years we spent acquiring its attractions and our whole life span will seem merely like a part of a morning or afternoon.
Our brief time on this earth has eternal consequences on the day of judgement. Our deeds performed in this Dunya could make us amongst the happiest ones or the ones whose abode will be Jahannam.
This realization creates an awareness that the most valuable commodity on earth is time. So, utilize it and make productive use of time because once it’s gone it will never be returned.
يا ابن آدم إنما أنت أيام كلما ذهب يوم ذهب بعضك
O son of Adam! You are nothing but days Whenever a day passes, a part of you has gone –Hasan Al basari RA
